SOS can't get gains

I've been working out upper body since August pretty consistently. I have gained about 10-15 pounds since then, but it doesn't really show. Also I've started taking creatine for the past two weeks, does anyone know long it takes to start seeing results? I compare myself to pictures I took in August and I got a little bigger but not nearly what I see a lot of my friends gain in 6+ months. I am Asian, and fairly skinny. Is it harder to make gains as an Asian? I don't really take protein powder but I eat a ton. Nothing seems to make a difference. How can I improve?
