As those of you who've followed my log may be aware, I follow a leangains style intermittent fasting eating schedule on weekdays, and eat on a regular schedule on weekends. I know there are some other members who do intermittent fasting as well, so I thought this might be of some interest to the forum.
A recent update on the leangains website discussed a new study on intermittent fasting, which concluded "Our results suggest that an intermittent fasting program in which all calories are consumed in an 8-h window each day, in conjunction with resistance training, could improve some health-related biomarkers, decrease fat mass, and maintain muscle mass in resistance-trained males."

For clarification: I'm not promoting intermittent fasting for other members or in general. It just interests me personally since I've been doing it for a few years now. I've enjoyed it for various reasons, but understand that it's not magic and of lesser importance than total calories and macros; really, the biggest benefit I find is that it helps me assure my deficits or surpluses stay moderate (without strictly counting).
Also, I am completely uneducated in how to analyze or critique studies like this. But I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of some more knowledgeable members on the adequacy and/or conclusions of the study. What it says to me is: IF could be more beneficial for someone cutting than non-time-restricted dieting, but getting total kCals and macros right first is far more critical. I'm also somewhat concerned about the lowered testosterone and IGF-1 in the IF individuals. I'd be interested to see a similar study where the participants were eating in surplus.
